The Maitland Saints are the newest AFL club in the Hunter Valley. The Saints were incorporated in 2007 and fielded teams in the Newcastle Junior competitions for 10's and 12's, starting the season with 17 registered players and finishing with more than 40.
In 2008, the Saints have expanded to more than 40 players to start the year, playing in competitions in 10's, 12's and 14's. We aim to continue building the code and the club through the year and to establish ourselves as a great sporting alternative in the Maitland area.
2009 saw the numbers grow to 60 with Auskick numbers reaching 25.
In 2010, numbers continued to increase with more than 80 players and 30 Auskickers.
AFL is very complementary to other local sports. The Saints play on Sunday mornings (home games at Max McMahon Oval, Rutherford) and the skills of the game develop skills in all other games. Participation is both possible and desirable for the increased attention to skill development within a fast, competitive and fun game.
